If you have given birth on or after 1st October 2022 you may be eligible for funding towards the cost of your treatment with us.

85-90 percent of people do sustain an injury during childbirth – it could be a simple perineal tear that is healing well, or something more bothersome such as a pelvic floor muscle injury or a prolapse. Whatever it is though, we can help you. If you have already had an ACC form completed, all we need is the ACC number. Please bring it with you. If a form hasn’t been completed we can do one with you at your first appointment and we then submit them to ACC.

We can help you rehabilitate after childbirth and get you back to doing the things you enjoy, in a safe and timely way.

The sorts of problems we can help with include:

  • Bladder and bowel concerns:
    • Leakage
    • Having to rush to the toilet and perhaps not making it
    • Having to go more often
    • Constipation or difficulty emptying the bladder or bowel
  • Pain
    • Pelvic or low back pain
    • Neck pain
    • Wrist and forearm problems
    • Pain associated with bladder and bowel function
  • Sexual pain and dysfunction
  • Prolapse
  • Safe return to exercise
  • General rehabilitation of abdominals, pelvic floor and core

It’s important, even if you’re not having any symptoms, to ensure that you build up the strength and function in the pelvic floor particularly – to help avoid problems later in life. We can help you with this and give you advice about long term care and pelvic floor maintenance exercises.

We recommend that you see a pelvic health physiotherapist at around 6 weeks postnatal, but even if it’s been some time since you had your baby, it’s never too late. We call this our postnatal Warrant of Fitness.
